Vine Launches G-rated App for Kids to View Videos

So, Vine decided to create Vine Kids, a simple new app that gives young children a fun way to watch Vine videos. The idea came about during an office conversation in early January.

Andre Sala the head of content at Vine was talking about how much his two-year-old daughter loves Vine –– he said he wished there was a separate app she could use to more easily watch posts that are more acceptable for kids. That week happened to be Hack Week, a time when Vine employees get to work on projects outside of their day-to-day work. So two folks teamed up and built exactly that.

How Vine Kids App Works

The interface of the kids section of the app has been altered to be more fun for children, showing a new Vine each time the user swipes left or right and playing “quirky” sounds each time the user taps the screen. The app pulls from the millions of Vines being created on the website or platform and chooses G-rated ones that are acceptable for children. Vine is Twitter’s own video platform, where a user can create their own stop-animation looping videos, share and re-share them, like them, etc. from a central feed. The Vine Kids app is currently only available on all iOS devices.
